Circumstances of Death
Special Agent William James Tennis was driving a government vehicle from Richmond to Roanoke, Virginia. During the drive, his vehicle was involved in a one-car accident, causing the vehicle to overturn. Agent Tennis was hospitalized and the attending physician determined that he had suffered a severe heart attack. Although he returned to work, his health continued to decline and several months later he suffered another sudden heart attack and died.
Background
Agent Tennis joined the Alcohol Tax Unit on December 4, 1934, and was assigned to the Richmond Field Office. He held a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and had proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1917-1919.

Agent Tennis was born in Phoebus, Virginia. He was survived by his wife and their six children.
