Wilmington Man Sentenced to Ten Years in Federal Prison for Gun Possession Involved in Carjacking
WILMINGTON, Del. – David C. Weiss, U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, announced that a Wilmington man was sentenced last week to 10 years in federal prison for possessing a firearm that was used in a carjacking. Chief U.S. District Judge Colm F. Connolly pronounced the sentence.
According to court documents and argument, on December 1, 2019, Davine Boyce, 23, participated in a carjacking in downtown Wilmington. About twenty minutes later, police spotted the victim’s car and tried to pull it over. Mr. Boyce and three juveniles were in the victim’s car. They engaged in a high-speed car chase with police and ultimately crashed. The defendant was arrested after trying to run from police with a stolen loaded Taurus Model G2C 9mm semiautomatic handgun with an extended magazine and obliterated serial number in his hoodie pocket. At the sentencing hearing, the Court found that Mr. Boyce had possessed or transferred the gun in connection with the carjacking, which enhanced his sentencing guidelines. Mr. Boyce was prohibited from possessing a firearm by virtue of a prior felony conviction.
U.S. Attorney Weiss stated, “Removing individuals from our community who illegally possess a firearm is critical to keeping the public safe. Those who choose to illegally possess a firearm will be met with serious consequences, as demonstrated by the sentence in this case. I wish to commend the Wilmington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their investigative assistance in this case.”

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jennifer K. Welsh and Alexander P. Ibrahim prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Wilmington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
