Man From Albuquerque Sentenced to 57 Months in Federal Prison for Possessing Firearm as Convicted Felon

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Nelson Carralero-Escobar, 65, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was sentenced in federal court in Albuquerque on Mar. 5 to 57 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Carralero-Escobar pleaded guilty to this offense on Nov. 14, 2019.  According to his plea agreement, police stopped Carralero-Escobar in Albuquerque on Dec. 2, 2018, as he tried to get into a truck with doors stolen from another vehicle.  Carralero-Escobar had a pistol in a back pocket of his pants when police stopped him.  Carralero-Escobar could not possess the firearm lawfully because he was previously convicted of several felony offenses including aggravated assault on a household member with a deadly weapon, child abuse, and drug trafficking.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and Albuquerque Police Department investigated this case.  Assistant U.S Attorney Timothy Trembley prosecuted the case as part of the Special Assistant U.S. Attorney (“SAUSA”) Partnership between the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Bernalillo County District Attorney.
