Felon in Possession of Firearms Sentenced in Federal Court

United States Attorney Richard W. Moore of the Southern District of Alabama announced that Christopher Rashawn Lewis, 28, of Selma, Alabama, was sentenced today in federal court for his illegal possession of firearms as a convicted felon.  Lewis, who has three prior felony convictions for illegal possession of controlled substances, was indicted for three separate instances where he was found in possession of firearms.  Lewis pled guilty to two of the counts in August of 2019.

United States District Court Judge William H. Steele imposed a sentence of 46 months imprisonment, to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release.  The judge ordered that Lewis receive drug abuse treatment while in prison as a condition of his supervision.  No fine was imposed, but Lewis was ordered to pay $200 in special mandatory assessments.

The case was investigated by the Selma Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.   It was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office by Assistant United States Attorney Gloria A. Bedwell.
