ATF Welcomes Explosives Detection Canine

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Denver Field Division Welcomes Explosives Detective Canine Jaisa to the Salt Lake City Field Office

DENVER — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Denver Field Division is pleased to announce the addition of a new member to our team. Explosives Detection Canine Jaisa has successfully completed an intensive 12-week explosive detection training program with her handler and has joined the ATF's Salt Lake City Field Office.

Jaisa’s training program covered a wide range of skills. She has been conditioned to detect explosives, explosives residue and post blast evidence. As a bonus, because of her conditioning to smokeless powder and other explosive fillers, she can detect firearms and shell casings hidden in crime scenes, containers, vehicles and buried underground.

Her handler is an ATF Special Agent, who spent a significant amount of time training and bonding with Jaisa over the past several months. Together they are a highly skilled canine team.

"Explosives detection canines are an invaluable asset to our mission, and we are excited to welcome Jaisa to the Salt Lake City Field Office," said Special Agent in Charge Brent Beavers. "Jaisa's skills and training are instrumental to safeguarding our communities from violent crime.”

Following her training in Front Royal, Virginia, Jaisa made the long journey to her new home in Utah with the Salt Lake City Field Office. While Jaisa’s home base is Utah, she will deploy to investigations across the field division and country as needed to support firearm and explosives investigations.

The ATF Denver Field Division extends its gratitude to the ATF National Canine Division staff in Front Royal, Virginia.

The ATF Denver Field Division remains steadfast in its commitment to combatting firearms and explosives-related violent crimes, preserving public safety and protecting communities. Jaisa's addition to the team is yet another step forward in achieving our critical mission.
