ATF Announces National Odor Recognition Testing
PHOENIX – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering National Odor Recognition Testing on March 1-3, 2022. Training is intended for law enforcement, fire, intelligence, and military personnel who handle explosives detection canines or military working dogs. This 3-day training event conducted by ATF’s National Canine Division includes:
- Explosives lectures.
- Question and answer sessions with ATF canine trainers and explosives experts.
- Explosives odor recognition training.
- Homemade explosives (HME) imprinting.
- Single-blind NORT testing administered by an ATF Forensic Chemist.
A media event will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Arizona State Fairgrounds located at 1826 W. McDowell Rd. in Phoenix. ATF’s Lead Instructor, Cody D. Monday, will present a short briefing about the NORT, after which members of the media are welcome to conduct secondary interviews, take photographs and/or video, and meet the canine teams from these participating agencies:
